The 29th Annual South End Ladies Democratic Club of Greater
Hartford anniversary dinner benefiting the Leukemia Society of
America; Northern Connecticut Chapter took place Sunday, September
27. Several hundred attended the event at the U.S. Chowder Pot
Restaurant in Hartford's South Meadows.
Guest speakers included U.S. Congresswoman and candidate for
governor Barbara B. Kennelly, Democratic Congressional candidate
John B. Larson and Mayor Michael Peters.
Club President Lorain Tenore presented a generous donation to
the John Namnoum, former Executive Director of the Leukemia Society
of America, Northern Connecticut Chapter.
Club Founder Vinnie Russo presented three Fellowship Awards to
State Representative Paul R. Doyle (D-28th), Rocky Hill Deputy
Mayor Dr. Barbara Orsini-Surwilo and Hartford Democratic Town
Chair Robert J. Jackson
Doyle is an attorney in private practice in association with
Sabatini & Associates in Newington, Connecticut. He is a
graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, and
a former member of the Wethersfield Town Council and former town
treasurer.
Orsini-Surwilo has served on the Rocky Hill Planning and Zoning
Commission. She was a member of the Transportation Committee
of the Capitol Region of Governments for 25 years and the Regional
Commission Planning Commission for 12 years.
Jackson has been involved in Hartford politics for 19 years.
He served 12 years on the Democratic Town Committee and is a
graduate of Central Connecticut State University with a B.S.
in Industrial Technology. He has been employed at Pratt &
Whitney in East Hartford for 30 years and is currently manager
of Continuous Improvements.
Music and entertainment at the event was provided by Bruno Cerati.
Floral arrangements were donated by Gordon Bonetti Florist, 476
Franklin Avenue.
