"Celebrate Columbus" is Saturday, October
10th! The annual Columbus Day parade will start at 10 am at the
north end of Franklin Avenue and continue down to Columbus Park.
A delegation from Italy will march and a dedication ceremony
will follow in the park. A monument is to be erected in the park
dedicated to the sister city in Floridia. After the parade, the
street will be re-opened for traffic and more fun will start.
From noon until 5pm, clowns will walk the Avenue giving away
free balloons to the children, a strolling singer along with
an accordion player will spend time in front of every restaurant
and bakery, and a stage will be set up at 500 Franklin Avenue
with entertainers. Many merchants will be offering specials that
day and some have hired their own musical entertainers to play
in front of their businesses. The newest business on the street,
Gordon Bonetti Florist, will have its grand opening and the storefronts
will be decorated to promote the festivities.
This one-day event is being sponsored by FAMA and BankBoston
in an effort to bring patrons back to Franklin Avenue.
Please join us for the day! Bring your families and friends to
the parade and stay for a while. The merchants on Franklin Avenue
value your patronage and will welcome your visit.
