When the beauty of the fall season gives way to fallen leaves
and plenty of raking, Hartford's Department of Public Works will
be ready for the clean-up. Leaf collection will last for eight
weeks, October 13 through December 4, 1998, and should be easier
than ever for all of us.
Residents have three choices for recycling leaves:
1. Weekly Curbside Collection of Paper Leaf Bags. How: Place
bagged leaves at the curb in biodegradable paper leaf bags only.
No plastic bags. When: On your weekly assigned collection day
(Same as waste and recyclables) Monday through Friday from October
13 to December 4, 1998.
Please note: When a holiday or observance of a holiday falls
on a Monday through Friday, regular collection of trash and recyclables
is delayed by one day for that week. There is also a pick-up
on Saturday during each holiday week.
2. Collection of Loose Leaves by Vacuum Truck. How: Rake
loose leaves to the curb, but not into the street. Please be
sure that there are no foreign objects like rocks, branches or
brush clippings with your leaves. When: To find out when the
truck will be working its way through your neighborhood, call
Street Services at 543-8760, Monday-Friday; 7:30 am to 4 pm or
the Recycling Office at 543-8609, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30
pm.
3. Drop-Off Your Loose or Bagged Leaves. How: Drop off
loose leaves or leaves in biodegradable paper leaf bags. Where:
Public Works Yard, 40 Jennings Road. When: Monday through Saturday
7:30 am to 5 pm, October 13, to December 4, 1998.
Let's all do our part so that Hartford can be "Leaf Free"
before the first snow fall.
State law requires that leaves be collected separately from trash
and used for composting. The Department of Public Works will
recycle the collected leaves into organic fertilizer.
Let's work together to say good-bye to our leaves by December
4, 1998.
