Weaver Crushes Bulkeley 21-0 in Season Opener
A rock-solid defense and an explosive running game gave the defending
two-time state champion Weaver Beavers an impressive 21-0 win
over the Bulkeley High Bulldogs at Dillon Stadium last Saturday
afternoon. It was the team's first game under new Head Coach
Lee Hunt, who replaced Dave Hodge.
The aptly named John Weaver gave the Beaver's their first touchdown
of the game with a 10-yard-run late in the first quarter. Weaver's
Dorelle Harrison almost scored the team's second touchdown but
had the ball ripped from his hands inside the 10-yard-line by
Bulkeley's Israel Rivera. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, however,
an alert Walter Champion scooped up the ball for Weaver and dashed
the remaining eight yards to the goal line.
Harrison scored the team's final TD late in the game with a 33-yard-run
following a Patrick Small fumble recovery. Kimali Sinclair booted
the ball through the uprights for extra points on all three Weaver
touchdowns.
Weaver (1-0) will next play Manchester (0-0) at Manchester this
Friday at 7 pm. Bulkeley will be travelling out of state to
play a team from Gardner, Massachusetts.
