William H. Carey Jr., 74 husband of Susan (Fippinger) Carey
of Wethersfield, died Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) in St. Francis
Hospital and Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Hartford,
Carey was the son of the late William H. and Mary (Welch) Carey.
He was a U.S. Marine, 3rd Marine Division, during World War II.
Carey graduated Bulkeley High School in 1941, Trinity College
in 1950, and Michigan State University 1951 and he obtained his
6th year degree from the University of Hartford. Carey taught
in the Torrington School system from 1955-1957, the Hartford
Public School System from 1957-1968, and was Vice Principal in
Hartford at the Brackett-Northeast Elementary School from 1968-1971,
Barnard-Brown Elementary School from 1971-1972, and the Eleanor
B. Kennelly Elementary School from 1972-1987.Besides his wife,
Susan, he leaves two sons William H. Carey III and his wife,
Jacquline, and Daniel M. Carey, all of Hartford; two daughters,
Elizabeth Guild of Wethersfield, Marie C. and her husband Thomas
Meaney of Florida; five grandchildren, Cristen, and Megan Carey,
Scott Guild and Christopher and David Holt; his brother and sister-in-law,
Joseph M. and Dorothy Carey and many nieces and nephews. He was
pre-deceased by his sister, Marie Bowman. The Farley Sullivan
Funeral Home at 34 Beaver Street, Wethersfield, was in charge
of all arrangements. Last Friday September 4, Carey was buried
with full military honors at Village Cemetary in Wethersfield.
