Weaver to Play Game for Charity
The Weaver Beavers, defending Class M Football Champions, will
play an exhibition game against Cheshire High School next Friday,
September 11, at Dillon Stadium. Proceeds from the game will
go to Mayor Mike's Companies for Kids. Hartford Public School
officials say they will ask for a donation of $5 at the gate.
Rizzotti Resigns with Blizzard
Former UCONN standout and current American Basketball League
(ABL) star Jennifer Rizzotti has signed a three year contract
to continue playing for the New England Blizzard. The financial
terms of the contract were not available at press time but Rizzotti
is expected to be one of the highest paid players in the league.
The announcement ended months of speculation as to whether Rizzotti
would leave the ABL for its rival league WNBA, where her former
teammate, Rebecca Lobo, plays.
Rizzotti was the Blizzard's second highest scorer last year,
averaging 10.8 points a game. She also led the team in assists
(4.4 per game) and steals (89 on the season). More importantly,
she is one of the team's biggest audience draws and one of the
main reasons why the Blizzard has led the ABL in attendance for
the past two years.
Wolf Pack Players Slated for National Ad Campaign
Five players from the Hartford Wolf Pack hockey team will appear
in a television commercial for the Norelco Reflex Action electric
razor. The spots will air nationally beginning this month on
network and syndicated stations.
Pack players P.J. Stock, Adam Smith, Brent Thompson, Derek Armstrong
and Chris Winners will all appear in the spot, along with team
mascot Jeff Skurkis. Armstrong will also appear in a print ad
that will start running in October.
Norelco said they gave players from the Pack the razors and asked
them to try it for 21 days as part of market research project.
The players were not told that they might be in a commercial.
