25 Hartford youngsters used their writing skills to win brand
new mountain bikes last Saturday as part of the Third Annual
"I Love Hartford Parks Express Yourself" essay contest.
The bikes were awarded last Saturday during a ceremony at Pope
Park hosted by Georgette Yaindl, Executive Director of the Connecticut
Bicycle Coalition, and Maxine Stewart, Chairman of the Hartford
Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
Yaindl said this year's winners were chosen from over 225 entries.
The essay contest is held in conjunction with the Hartford Public
Library, which publicizes the event at all its branch locations.
In addition to the Diamondback Outlook mountain bikes from Country
Sports of Avon, each youngster also received a helmet, bike lock
and water bottle.
Funding for this year's contest was provided by Connecticut Children's
Medical Center, Konica, The Hartford Courant, Colt Manufacturing,
Connecticut Light and Power, Terry and Pat D'Italia, Councilman
Luis Ayala, Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, Frances Pope
Walker, United Health Care and Mintz and Hoke Advertising and
Public Relations.
The winners of this year's essay contest are: Kerri Borell, Kerry
Ann Campbell, Jeffrey Craig, Cardell Daniel, Ethan Drozd, Carmello
Figueroa, Wilfredo Gonzalez, Jr., Nicole Hodges, Hayley Kaysing,
La-Shae Pickett-Jackson, Melanie Mann, Derrick Minnifield, Christopher
Ponder, David Reed, Antoine Relerford, Amara Russaw, Cierra Rivera,
McKenzie Seldon, Denny Sierra, Maria Sutera, Hong Thuy, Waleska
Torres, Bich Tran, Nair Viverios and Jahamar Williams.
