Sara Kerin and Loi To of Quirk Middle School were recently
honored at the 14th Annual Connecticut Middle Level Schools Scholar
Leader Banquet. The award, which is sponsored by the Connecticut
Association of Schools, McDonald's Restaurants and Coca-Cola,
is given for outstanding leadership and academic achievement.
Laneka T. Thomas, 1998 graduate and Senior Class President
of Weaver High School, has been awarded the Mamie E. Weaver-Bey
Memorial Scholarship Award. Thomas, who plans to attend the University
of Chicago this fall, earned 10 varsity athletic letters while
at Weaver and has participated in numerous community activities,
including Walk Against Hunger, Educational Main Street and the
Dr. Seuss Read-In.
Hartford residents Christopher Burns and Amy Starble have
been named to the Dean's List at the University of Vermont. Burns
is a senior majoring in studio arts. Starble is a junior majoring
in elementary education.
Jennifer Parson, a 1998 graduate of Weaver High School,
has been awarded a college scholarship by Physical Therapy &
Sports Medicine Associates (PTSMA)of Farmington. Parsons plans
to attend Springfield College this fall. 14 other Connecticut
students also received the award.
