Last Tuesday evening, October, 20, First Congressional District
candidates Kevin J. O'Connor, 31, and John B. Larson, 50, participated
in a debate at Trinity College.
O'Connor, the Republican candidate, is seeking an elective office
for the first time. Larson, a Democrat, served four terms as
President Pro-Tempore of the State Senate, the longest anyone
has held this position in the state.
Several hundred attended the debate which was sponsored by the
League of Women Voters, the Federalist Society, Trinity College
Republicans and Democrats and the Trinity College Calendar Office.
O'Connor, a former Democrat who switched parties in 1997, is
mounting what many consider the first serious Republican campaign
for the First District seat since 1970, when former Hartford
Mayor Antonina P. Uccello narrowly lost to Democrat William R.
Cotter.
