Walter "Doc" Hurley, Bob Steele and George Cruz
were honored last Sunday afternoon, at Neutral Corner's Annual
Awards Banquet held at the Chowder Pot, for their contributions
to boxing in the Hartford area over many years.
The event was attended by a diverse crowd ranging from candidates
for political office to Boy Scout Troop 105 and a youth group
from the Hartford Housing Authority. Former Lt. Governor Joseph
Fauliso addressed the large crowd with a talk that stressed the
need for a strong moral foundation for our youth and said that
sports can be a major factor contributing to the development
of character in young people.
Attendees included Hartford mayor Mike Peters, city councilman
Mike McGarry, Democratic candidate for Congress from the first
district John Larson, Attorney General Richard Richard Blumenthal,
city treasurer Denise Nappier, state Senator Billy Ciotto and
state Rep. Evelyn Mantilla.
