Town InformationThe town of Scotland, population 1,230, is located in east central Connecticut and covers 18.3 sq.miles. It was settled in 1700 when a Scotsman named Isaac Magoon purchased several hundred acres in the southeast section of Windham. Scotland was separated from Windham when a society was formed and church built in 1732. It was not incorporated as a town however until 1857. Little has disturbed this placid agricultural community since Rochambeau's army camped here for a night in 1781. Quietly, though, the town has made significant contributions to the state. Samuel Huntington, a signer of the Declarations of Independence and a state governor, was born here, and that homestead, which dates from early 1700s remains a family farm today. The scenery here is pristine - small houses dotting family farms on rolling hills - and the town's principal occupation remains dairy and poultry farming.Preferred Town USA CustomersInclude a hypertext link from your free Town USA Business Listing to your web site to increase the exposure of your web site to your local community.
