Town USA |
Town InformationThe town of Brooklyn covers 28.7 sq. miles and is located in far eastern Connecticut. Home to some 6,710 people the town was incorporated from Pomfret and Canterbury in 1786. In 1819 it became the county seat. The number of large 18th century homes in Brooklyn testify to the local wealth at that time. Its farming businesses were extensive enough to warrant the formation of an Agricultural Association in 1820. At the same time mills were built along the many streams in the town, and eventually areas like West Wauregan and East Brooklyn became almost exclusively devoted to the textile industry. Today's town is the result of careful planning and a desire to preserve the colonial atmosphere created by the many landmarks and military memorials. Now it is the eastern section of the town that remains primarily commercial, with saw mills and producers of electrical goods. The rest of the town is rural and residential in character, with a few dairy farms still in operation.Preferred Town USA CustomersInclude a hypertext link from your free Town USA Business Listing to your web site to increase the exposure of your web site to your local community.
