Town InformationThe Town of Somers in central Connecticut borders Massachusetts and was annexed to Connecticut in 1749. Somers total area covers 28.7 sq. miles and she is home to a population of 9,190. The first settler was a Welchman named Benjamin Jones from Enfield, MA, who established and worked a farm at the foot of Bald Mountain only during the summers and vacated during the winter due to the severe winters. The first permanent settlement was 1713 and the town was finally named and incorporated in 1734. Somers primary industries are agriculture and diversified industry.
