Town InformationThe town of Salem in southeast Connecticut, covers 29.9 square miles and is home to an estimated 3,800 residents. The land was originally settled sometime around 1700. First called Pauqwonk, it was incorporated in 1819 on lands from Lyme, Montville, and Colchester. In its earliest years a prosperous wheat-growing district, Salem has remained as rural as it is today because of its relative distance from major thoroughfares.
