Town InformationThe town of New London at the mouth of the Thames River near the eastern end of Connecticut's Long Island shoreline, in New London County, covers 7.3 square miles and is home to approximately 26,820 residents. New London was first settled in 1646 and was incorporated in January, 1646. New London today is a busy commercial harbor town, the home of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and large marine construction and repair facilities.
