Town Information

The town of East Lyme is located in Eastern Connecticut in New London County on the Long Island Sound, covers 34.8 square miles and is home to some 15,590 residents. It was incorporated in 1839 on lands from Lyme and New London. Among the most notable features of East Lyme are the variety and extensive number of beaches along the Long Island Sound and the Niantic Bay. These beaches, along with taverns, inns, and cottages, have made the town a popular summer tourist attraction since the beginning of the century. The area also includes Rocky Neck State Park along the shore of the Sound and Nehantic State Forest in the hilly interior. Its many well-preserved houses include the Thomas Lee House, built in 1660, which is the oldest wood frame home in the state still in its original condition.
