Town InformationThe town of Wallingford in New Haven County, population 41,090 covering 39.8 sq. miles is located in Central Connecticut, originally one of the early settlements of the New Haven Colony. Its land sere included in the 1693 purchase from the Indians by the founders of New Haven. A plantation was authorized by the colony in 1667, and in 1669 a committee was appointed to oversee the planning of the new settlement. The first settlers arrived in 1670, the year which the town was set off from New Haven. The borough of Wallingford was incorporated in 1853, and the town and borough were consolidated in 1958. Cheshire, Meriden, and Prospect were all once part of Wallingford.State of Connecticut: Town
