Town InformationThe town of Prospect, population 8,010 covering 14.3 sq. miles is located southwest of central Connecticut. The area was settled as outlying districts of Cheshire and Waterbury. In 1769 the first year-round church society was formed, and by 1780 this was known as the Columbia Society of Cheshire. In its early years the town was divided by several religious disputes, the most famous of which concerned a sect known as the Perfectionists. In 1827 the town was incorporated from Cheshire and Waterbury. This was once the industrial section of Waterbuy, and when the cluster of mills here reached peak production around 1800 Waterbury was actually considered its residential suburb. Now, however, Prospect is itself residential and rural. A quarter of its area is owned by three water companies, and a chain of lakes has been created on the surrounding hills.Preferred Town USA CustomersInclude a hypertext link from your free Town USA Business Listing to your web site to increase the exposure of your web site to your local community.
