Town InformationWestbrook is an attractive, small shoreline community in Middlesex County, covers 16.2 square miles and is home to some 5,414 residents. The town is a popular recreation and tourist center, offering a variety of restaurants, resorts, marinas and shopping. Westbrook was founded in 1648. The area was soon known as Pochoug, an Indian name meaning "at the confluence of two rivers". Westbrook was the birthplace of David Bushnell, the Revolutionary War Patriot who is recognized by the United States Navy, as the inventor of the submarine.
