Town InformationThe town of Deep River in southeast Connecticut, covers 14.2 square miles and is home to some 4, 360 residents. Deep River was originally settled in 1635 as a village of Saybrook and incorporated in 1644. As the original Saybrook Colony was divided to form several towns in the area, this town was defined as the area between Chester and Essex. The name was changed to Deep River in July, 1947. Ten miles up the Connecticut River from Long Island Sound, the town is centrally located in the state's largest vacation area.
