Town InformationThe town of Cromwell in central Connecticut on the west bank of the Connecticut River, covers 13.5 square miles and is home to some 12,370 residents. Cromwell was first settled in 1650 as the Upper Houses of Middletown, it developed slowly in its early years and was finally incorporated under its present name in 1851. Cromwell's has been a successful center for industry since shipbuilding flourished on the river and William C. Redfield constructed one of the first river steamboats in the town in 1823.
