Town InformationThe Town of Roxbury, population 1,870 covering 27.4 sq. miles is located in western Connecticut and was first explored in 1673 by men from Stratford and was incorporated from Woodbury in 1796. Roxbury is known for the discovery of an ore called spathic iron before the Revolution. Spathic iron is a very rare and at the time of discovery was considered to be the only such deposit in the United States. Although, garnets found today are not considered to be gem quality, in 1977 the General Assembly named the garnet as the State Mineral. Today the town is primarily rural and agricultural. There are several important old homes preserved in its designated historic district.Preferred Town USA CustomersInclude a hypertext link from your free Town USA Business Listing to your web site to increase the exposure of your web site to your local community.
