Town InformationThe town of Simsbury (Population: 22,023.) is located northwest of the center of Connecticut on hills strikingly intersected by the Farmington River. The early town records were destroyed by fire, but it appears that the first settlement may have been as early as 1663 in the area later separated as East Granby. The General Court appointed a constable in October of 1669, and 1670 is considered the date of incorporation. The town was abandoned during King Philip's War in 1676, however, and burned to the ground by Indians. Many of the original settlers did not return. Those who did were assisted in the rebuilding by new pioneers, and the town's future was assured in 1705 because copper deposits were discovered. Simsbury covers 34.5 sq. miles.
