Town InformationThe town of Plainville is located in Hartford County, Central Connecticut, and was first settled as a southeast district of Farmington. When this land (9.6 sq. miles) was surveyed in 1721, there was only one settler on it. (Population now, 18,350). Because the area was sandy and covered with scrub oak, it was neglected for some time and used by owners in Farmington for hunting only. The first church society was organized in 1839, when the town was named. In 1869 the town was incorporated from Farmington. State of Connecticut, Town of Plainville Home Page.
