Town InformationThe town of Marlborough is located in central Connecticut and was established in October of 1803 after it was taken from Colchester, Glastonbury and Hebron. Never more than rural, the town nevertheless developed a reputation as a seat of Yankee ingenuity. Among its inventor-sons are Henry Dickinson, inventor of the washing machine, Joseph Carter, who designed a patented bread knife, Charles Hall, famous for an unusually comfortable wagon seat, and Jonathon Kilbourn, who devised the first large screws in boxes for industrial use. Approximately 65 years ago there were only 350 residents. Now with over 5,000, Marlborough economy remains based on small local business and family-run restaurants. Sq.
